Germans in the media

Today’s Germans are often misrepresented in the media; especially in American cartoons or sitcoms or also in old Turkish movies. What strikes my mind the most is that Germans in those TV shows have often an accent similar to Adolf Hitler (in Family Guy for instance, see below) or are homosexual (the bartender in Friends (Gunther) as well as the chef in Las Vegas (his name was also Gunther)) or are often playing the bad guy (the villains of James Bond or see blow for an example from The Simpsons).

Why these characters? Is that a wrong perception of mine? I will try to find some other examples. Maybe, like in the “Peeing on daddy” contest, I am wrong.

Here is a scene from a famous old Turkish movie (Gurbetci Saban with Kemal Sunal, 1985) about Turkish immigrants in Germany (around the 80s-90s) and the German police. Pay attention to the accent and what they say (most of it is rubbish). And of course the Germans are misrepresented here as well.

But are not these images of the germans true?
    You’re blowing my mind.

Come on Timmy. Am I as strong as the guys in The Simpsons, or do I speak like the guy in Family Guy? And I hope I am not as mean as those German police officers in the Turkish movie 🙂
